Since the news of her passing, many have shared heartfelt tributes to Pamela Salem, the actress also celebrated for her work on Doctor Who.
Who was Pamela Salem?
Born in India in 1944, Pamela Salem studied at the University of Heidelberg in Germany before training in acting at the Central School of Drama. She began her career in repertory theatre in Chesterfield and York and went on to enjoy a long and versatile career on stage, television, and film. She was especially acclaimed for performances in plays by Shakespeare, Chekhov, and Harold Pinter.
One of her most notable film roles was Miss Moneypenny in the James Bond movie Never Say Never Again (1983), starring Sean Connery. Salem was also known for her voice work with Big Finish, producing acclaimed audio dramas.
Passing
Pamela Salem passed away at her home in Surfside, Florida, in the morning. Big Finish producer David Richardson shared the news, praising her warmth and professionalism:
“Pamela was lovely, and we all loved her. Whenever she had a recording, she’d fly in from Miami on her own, quietly and without fuss. She always arrived with big hugs, bright smiles, and sometimes gifts. She was genuinely interested in everyone—co-stars, crew, and guests—and spoke joyfully about life on Miami Beach.”
EastEnders Role
From 1988 to 1989, Salem appeared in 37 episodes of EastEnders as Joanne Francis, a member of the gangster group “The Firm.” Joanne was sent by her boss, Mr. Vinnicombe, to run Strokes Winebar, a front for illegal gambling. Despite initial tension, she formed a strong working relationship and friendship with manager Dirty Den Watts (Leslie Grantham).

Doctor Who
Pamela is also remembered by Doctor Who fans for her role as Professor Rachel Jensen, appearing in the 1977 story The Robots of Death and in 1988’s Remembrance of the Daleks. She reprised the role in the spin-off series Counter-Measures.
Other Work
Before relocating to Miami, Pamela lived in Los Angeles and appeared in several cult sci-fi films in the 1990s. She also had roles in popular TV shows such as ER and The West Wing, recurring roles in the sitcom French Fields, and appeared in the movie All Creatures Great and Small.
Personal Life
Pamela was married to Michael O’Hagan from 1983 until his death in 2017. O’Hagan appeared in films including End of Days (1999), Speed 2: Cruise Control (1997), and Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (1997).
