My husband has spent the past decade raising my 14-year-old daughter as if she were his own.
On the morning of his 40th birthday, when we were supposed to attend a big celebration at his parents’ house, everything changed.
I heard voices coming from my daughter’s room and went to check. There, I found my husband quietly urging her to skip the party so I wouldn’t notice.
He told her to pretend she didn’t want to go and even offered to take her shopping as a reward.
She had been looking forward to the party for weeks, but hesitantly agreed.
I know exactly why he did it—and it makes me furious. His mother can’t stand my daughter because she thinks her son has “wasted” his time and money raising a child who isn’t biologically his.
To keep his mother happy, he was willing to make my daughter feel excluded and unwanted, as if she were something to be ashamed of.
I couldn’t bring myself to attend the party after that, so I faked a migraine and stayed home.
Two days later, I’m still struggling with the sense of betrayal. What he did made me feel sick, like I’d seen a side of him I never knew existed.
Now, I’m seriously thinking about leaving him.
