The U.S. is issuing a limited-edition passport to mark America’s 250th anniversary. Here’s what you need to know about it and how to obtain one.

In celebration of the United States’ 250th anniversary in July 2026, the country will issue a special commemorative passport.

The design is set to include President Donald Trump’s portrait along with a gold signature. Inside, one page will feature an image of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The front cover will display “United States of America” in large gold lettering, while the back will show the American flag with a “250” emblem surrounded by stars.

According to the U.S. State Department, the special edition will be limited to in-person applications made in Washington, D.C., around the July 4 period. Only about 25,000 to 30,000 copies will be produced.

Applicants outside Washington, whether applying online or by mail, will receive the standard passport instead of the commemorative version.

The State Department confirmed that the limited-edition passports will include enhanced artwork but retain the same security features as regular U.S. passports. Officials also noted that there will be no additional cost for the special edition.

The release is part of broader 250th anniversary commemorations, which also include related national initiatives such as special annual park passes.
