“‘You look so much slimmer,’ fans react to new photos of Gabourey Sidibe — see her before-and-after weight loss pictures.”

After years of struggling with her weight and body image, Gabourey Sidibe—widely recognized for her breakout role in Precious—underwent weight-loss surgery and later opened up about her reasons. Her transformation has drawn widespread admiration, with fans praising her appearance and progress.

In her memoir, This Is Just My Face: Try Not to Stare, she explained that after years of unsuccessful attempts to lose weight naturally and enduring criticism about her appearance, she chose bariatric surgery in 2016 as a serious step toward improving her health. The procedure reduced her stomach size, helping control hunger and encouraging healthier eating habits. She emphasized that surgery wasn’t a quick fix, but a necessary tool to change her long-term relationship with food.

Her decision was also influenced by health concerns, including being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, which pushed her to take control of her well-being. Although she had tried for years to lose weight through exercise and training, she eventually recognized that surgery was the right step for her.

Beyond the physical changes, Sidibe has been open about her emotional journey. She has spoken about overcoming depression and bulimia through therapy and learning to redefine her sense of beauty and self-worth. For her, the decision to have surgery was about health and comfort—not appearance.

She continues to work on her confidence daily, finding strength in small personal choices and maintaining supportive relationships. While she still faces challenges related to body image and habits, she now approaches them with greater balance and self-awareness.

Post-surgery, she follows a structured routine that includes smaller meals, regular consultations with a nutritionist, and consistent physical activity such as workouts and swimming. Her focus remains on long-term health rather than quick results.

Sidibe has also emphasized the importance of privacy in her journey, choosing to keep certain personal goals to herself to stay focused and motivated. Over time, her perspective has shifted—she now feels at peace with her body and wishes she had embraced self-love earlier.

In her personal life, she found happiness as well. She married talent agent Brandon Frankel in 2021, and in 2024, the couple welcomed twins, marking a joyful new chapter.

Her story is ultimately one of resilience, self-acceptance, and growth—showing that meaningful change often involves both physical and emotional transformation.
