8-Year-Old Boy Dies in Tragic Summer Camp Accident: “Forever Remembered by Everyone Who Loved Him”

A Massachusetts family is grieving the devastating loss of their 8-year-old son after a tragic accident at summer camp. Young Mason was struck by a falling tree and sadly lost his life.

Mason Sundberg, 8, was attending YMCA Camp Chickami in Wayland on Tuesday morning when a large tree suddenly fell, striking him and leaving him critically injured. He was airlifted to Massachusetts General Hospital, but despite efforts to save him, he later died from his injuries, according to the Sudbury, MA Police Department.

His heartbroken family has since shared memories of Mason, describing him as a loving, funny, energetic, and incredibly loyal child who brought happiness to everyone around him.

“Mason was funny, goofy and crazy in all the right ways,” his family said. They remembered him for singing and dancing around the house with a huge smile and always seeming to have a spring in his step.

Mason enjoyed video games, sushi, swimming, and skiing. He was also devoted to his dog, River, and was known for “running everywhere” and going all out when it came to decorating and celebrating holidays.

“He loved to draw and create stories with his friends, carrying a notebook in his bag wherever he went,” his family continued. “His brightness will be missed, but never forgotten by those who loved him.”

He added that the organization was keeping Mason’s family at the center of its thoughts during the heartbreaking time.

Mason’s loved ones are now left with memories of a joyful young boy whose laughter, creativity, and energy touched everyone around him.

Our thoughts are with Mason’s family, friends, and everyone who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
