Rosie O’Donnell responded to Trump’s citizenship threat not with a legal defense, but with a sharp public message focused on his character.
After Trump threatened to strip her of her citizenship, O’Donnell posted a photo of Trump with Jeffrey Epstein and suggested that the president appeared increasingly “rattled.” She then highlighted what she sees as a stark difference between their public identities, portraying herself as a vocal mother who refuses to remain silent while accusing Trump of depending on dishonesty, intimidation, and fear.
From Ireland, where she has been seeking citizenship because of her family heritage, O’Donnell explained that leaving the United States wasn’t simply an attempt to escape. Instead, she described the decision as a personal choice to step away while refusing to stay quiet about the direction she believes the country is taking.
The dispute later made its way onto television when O’Donnell appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Dressed in a bright pink floral suit, she used jokes and sarcasm to criticize Trump once again. She spoke about leaving the country after becoming concerned about Project 2025, then looked straight into the camera and delivered a pointed message to Trump:
“Hi! I know you’re watching.”
For O’Donnell, the dispute seems to represent something much larger than a personal feud with Trump.
She has presented it as part of a broader debate about America’s identity, its political future, and who has the authority to define patriotism.
What began as another confrontation between a president and one of his longtime celebrity critics has grown into a wider public dispute involving citizenship, political expression, and what it means to challenge people in positions of power.
