Savannah Guthrie is speaking candidly about returning to the “Today” show while the search for her mother, Nancy, remains ongoing. In a heartfelt interview, the veteran broadcaster shared how the ordeal has affected every part of her life.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, disappeared from her Tucson, Arizona home on January 31, 2026. More than four months later, authorities continue investigating what they believe was an abduction.
During a recent conversation with Jenna Bush Hager, Savannah reflected on what it has been like to return to work amid the uncertainty.
“It’s really hard to come back,” she admitted through tears.
Although she said being back on air has provided a sense of purpose and comfort, the pain of her mother’s disappearance never leaves her.
“I’m happy to be back,” Savannah explained. “The show gives me something to focus on and brings me joy. But that doesn’t mean I’m not thinking about my mom every day.”
She also expressed appreciation for the support she has received from her colleagues and the entire “Today” team throughout the difficult period.
Addressing viewers who may wonder how she manages to continue working, Savannah made it clear that her mother’s case is constantly on her mind.
“I haven’t forgotten for a second,” she said. “We still need prayers, and we still hope someone will come forward with information.”
One source of strength has been her faith. Savannah shared that she often reflects on a sermon about continuing forward through life’s most difficult seasons, even when the path feels overwhelming.
“That’s what I’m trying to do,” she said. “Keep walking and not give up.”
She then revealed the emotional routine she has developed since returning to work.
“I cry every morning on the way to work, and I cry every morning on the way home.”
Despite the heartbreak, Savannah hopes her children learn an important lesson from watching her persevere.
“We can carry both sadness and joy at the same time,” she said. “And I’m going to show them that’s possible.”
Outside the studio, she has continued to use social media to ask for prayers and share messages of hope for her mother’s safe return.
Meanwhile, investigators say they are making progress in the case. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos recently stated that detectives and forensic specialists continue analyzing evidence gathered during the investigation, including surveillance footage and DNA evidence.
“We’re looking at every possibility,” Nanos said, adding that authorities believe they may be getting closer to answers.
Earlier this year, Savannah publicly announced that her family was offering a reward of up to $1 million for information that could help locate her mother. She urged anyone with knowledge of the case to come forward.
While remaining hopeful, Savannah acknowledged the painful uncertainty her family faces.
“We still believe there is hope,” she said. “But no matter what happened, we need to know where she is.”
The FBI has also offered a separate reward for information that could lead to Nancy’s recovery or an arrest in connection with her disappearance.
As the search continues, Savannah remains committed to balancing her professional responsibilities with the ongoing effort to bring her mother home. Though each day is filled with uncertainty, she says she is determined to keep moving forward while holding on to hope.
