My husband has been raising my 14-year-old daughter as his own for the past 10 years.
On the morning of his 40th birthday, we were supposed to attend a big celebration at his parents’ house.
But everything changed when I heard voices coming from my daughter’s room.
I walked in and found my husband speaking to her quietly, trying to keep me from hearing. He was urging her not to come to the party at his parents’ home.
He offered her a shopping trip if she agreed to tell me she didn’t feel well and stay behind.
My daughter had been looking forward to the event for weeks, but she reluctantly agreed.
I already understood why he was doing it—and it made me furious. My mother-in-law has always resented my daughter, believing her son “wasted” years and money raising a child who isn’t biologically his.
To avoid upsetting his mother, my husband was willing to make my daughter feel like a burden, as if she should be hidden or ashamed.
I couldn’t bring myself to attend the party after that, so I pretended to have a migraine and stayed home.
It’s been two days, and I still can’t shake the feeling of betrayal. What he did revealed a side of him I never expected—one that made me feel disgusted and unsettled.
Now I find myself questioning everything, even whether I can stay in this marriage.
