This woman thought her husband had already hurt her as badly as possible—walking out on her and their two children to begin a new life with his pregnant mistress. But years later, he returned and brought an entirely new problem with him.
Here’s what happened:
I’m 34, and my ex-husband is 36. He left me years ago after his mistress became pregnant. Since then, I’ve been raising our two children on my own.
Then, last week, he suddenly appeared at my doorstep with the daughter he had with that woman.
He wanted me to babysit.
He sounded desperate.
“My wife is in the hospital. She’s dying. I have to be there, and I have nobody else to turn to.”
I refused.
That immediately set him off.
“If you don’t help me, you’ll regret it for the rest of your life!” he shouted before storming away and calling me a “heartless, cruel witch.”
I thought that was the end of it.
Two months passed, and I had nearly forgotten the whole incident.
Then I received a phone call from his wife—the same woman he had left me for.
She introduced herself politely, almost as though I didn’t already know exactly who she was.
Then she asked whether I’d seen my ex recently.
I told her everything.
I explained that he’d shown up with their daughter and claimed she was seriously ill and lying in a hospital bed, supposedly close to death.
Her reaction shocked me.
“What hospital?” she asked.
That’s when I discovered the truth.
She had never been hospitalized.
She was actually staying at her parents’ house, happily announcing that she was pregnant with their second child.
My ex had simply wanted to get out of his responsibilities as a father.
Apparently, he’d arranged a date with another woman and decided that the easiest solution was to leave his daughter with me—his former wife.
Now I’m left wondering whether I did the right thing by telling his wife what he’d done.
She’s pregnant, and I know the last thing she needs is unnecessary stress.
But I can’t stop feeling guilty.
Maybe I made the situation worse.
Maybe I should have kept quiet and allowed the whole thing to disappear on its own.
