My husband texted me saying he would be returning from his work trip two days earlier than planned. When he arrived home on Monday, he apologized for not letting me know sooner about the change in schedule. Confused, I told him, “What do you mean? I already got your message.”
I grabbed my phone to show him, and in that moment we both went pale. There was an additional message in the same thread that read: “Make sure to keep your phone with you at all times—you never know who might be able to interfere with it.”
Neither of us understood what was happening. At first, we assumed it might be a prank from one of his coworkers or someone joking around. But then we noticed something that made it even more unsettling—the second message had been sent just an hour earlier, at a time when my husband was already alone in his car, driving with no one else around him.
We checked every possible explanation. We compared timestamps, verified his phone records, and even asked his colleagues if anyone had tried to contact me using his number. Nothing made sense. His phone showed no sign of sending the messages, and there were no indications of hacking or unknown devices connected.
As the confusion lingered, a strange sense of unease stayed with us. The idea that someone—or something—could have accessed his number while he was completely alone didn’t add up. Eventually, we were left with more questions than answers, and no clear explanation for who sent those messages or why.
To this day, we still don’t know the origin of those texts. Fortunately, nothing like it has happened again, but the memory of that moment still makes us uneasy whenever we think about it.
