Ivanka Trump recently reflected on the frightening experience of watching her father, Donald Trump, survive an assassination attempt live on television. She said the moment filled her with fear and shock, but also with a strong feeling that he was going to make it through safely.
The incident took place on July 13 during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when a gunman fired shots that grazed Donald Trump’s ear before Secret Service agents rushed him offstage. Images of him bloodied quickly spread online, leaving many Americans stunned.
At the time, Ivanka was at the Trump family golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, with two of her children. Since the TVs were already on, she witnessed the situation unfold almost instantly.
“There was a lot of commotion,” she shared during an appearance on The Diary of a CEO podcast. “I saw it almost immediately.”
Her immediate reaction was to protect her children — Arabella, Joseph, and Theodore — from the disturbing scenes. Despite the chaos, she said she felt an unexpected sense of certainty that her father would survive.
“In that moment, I knew he was okay,” Ivanka explained. “I felt deeply frightened and protective of my children, but I never believed the worst had happened. Thankfully, it hadn’t.”
She also said the experience reminded her how fragile life can be and reinforced the importance of valuing time with family and loved ones.
“We were incredibly fortunate that the attempt failed,” she said. “Moments like that make you appreciate love, connection, and how precious life really is.”
Rather than focusing on anger or negativity, Ivanka said she prefers to feel grateful that her father survived. When discussing the shooter, she acknowledged there was obvious darkness and instability involved, but stressed that the most important thing was that Donald Trump was still alive.
Although the event clearly had a lasting emotional impact on her, Ivanka said she wants to move forward with gratitude, resilience, and perspective instead of allowing the trauma to define her.
