Mohamed Al Fayed spent years claiming that Princess Diana was pregnant with his son Dodi\u2019s child when they died, a controversial allegation that became part of a much larger royal conspiracy theory. Nearly three decades later, the claim is once again receiving attention.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Diana was 36 when she and Dodi Fayed were killed in a car crash inside Paris\u2019 Pont de l\u2019Alma tunnel on August 31, 1997. Their driver, Henri Paul, also died in the crash.<\/p>\n

In the years afterward, Dodi\u2019s father, Mohamed Al Fayed, made the extraordinary claim that Diana had been carrying his son\u2019s baby and insisted that their deaths were not accidental.<\/p>\n

The pregnancy allegation was later examined during the extensive British inquest into the deaths of Diana and Dodi, where evidence largely pointed in the opposite direction.<\/p>\n

Pathologist Found No Evidence of Pregnancy<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Dr. Robert Chapman, the pathologist who performed Diana\u2019s postmortem examination, told the inquest that he found no physical evidence suggesting she was pregnant.<\/p>\n

When asked whether he had observed any indication of pregnancy, he answered that he had not.<\/p>\n

However, Chapman explained that very early pregnancy might not necessarily leave visible physical signs.<\/p>\n

He told the inquest that an established pregnancy would generally produce changes to the uterus, its lining, and the presence of a gestational sac. But during the earliest days following conception, those signs might not yet be detectable.<\/p>\n

That limited scientific uncertainty became one of the details used by conspiracy theorists to keep the pregnancy claim alive.<\/p>\n

The theory suggested that Diana may have been carrying a child who would have been a younger sibling to Princes William and Harry.<\/p>\n

Diana\u2019s Final Hours Reexamined<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The pregnancy allegation is among the theories revisited in Celebrity Crime Scene: Princess Diana<\/em>, a FOX special co-produced by TMZ that premiered August 20.<\/p>\n

The program uses virtual reconstruction technology to recreate the crash from different perspectives while revisiting some of the questions that have surrounded Diana\u2019s death for decades.<\/p>\n

One of the most prominent allegations came from Dodi\u2019s father, who died at 94 in 2023.<\/p>\n

Al Fayed claimed Diana and Dodi had told him they intended to marry and were expecting a child. He also alleged that authorities had embalmed Diana in Paris to prevent evidence of a pregnancy from being discovered.<\/p>\n

That claim was challenged during the inquest. Chapman explained that embalming would not have prevented him from identifying physical signs of pregnancy during his examination of Diana\u2019s reproductive organs.<\/p>\n

But Al Fayed\u2019s accusations went far beyond the pregnancy allegation.<\/p>\n

\u2018That Car Didn\u2019t Accidentally Crash\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The former Harrods owner claimed that British security forces had arranged Diana and Dodi\u2019s deaths because of their relationship and alleged plans for the future.<\/p>\n

His accusations eventually expanded into claims involving MI6 and Prince Philip.<\/p>\n

In a 1998 interview with the BBC, Al Fayed insisted that he believed the crash was not an accident and that a conspiracy was responsible.<\/p>\n

Those claims were thoroughly examined during the British inquest.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, the coroner found no evidence that Prince Philip, MI6, or another government organization had arranged the deaths of Diana and Dodi.<\/p>\n

Contraception and the Pregnancy Theory<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The pregnancy allegation itself also received significant attention during the investigation.<\/p>\n

Evidence presented at the inquest indicated that Diana had been taking contraceptive pills. There was also no indication that she had told her doctor, family members, friends, or associates that she believed she was pregnant.<\/p>\n

Investigators from Operation Paget, the British police inquiry created to examine the conspiracy allegations, also looked at scientific evidence.<\/p>\n

Blood recovered from the wrecked Mercedes was tested for human chorionic gonadotropin, or HCG\u2014the hormone associated with pregnancy.<\/p>\n

No HCG was detected.<\/p>\n

Taken together, the available evidence did not support Al Fayed\u2019s pregnancy claim. However, Lord Justice Scott Baker acknowledged that science could not establish the matter with absolute certainty.<\/p>\n

He explained that pregnancy might not be something that could be conclusively proven or disproven scientifically under the circumstances.<\/p>\n

That uncertainty, however, did not mean the evidence was equally divided.<\/p>\n

\u2018She Was Not\u2019 Pregnant<\/strong><\/h2>\n

When Baker later summarized the evidence for the jury, his assessment was considerably clearer.<\/p>\n

He pointed to the substantial amount of evidence indicating that Diana was not pregnant.<\/p>\n

The broader assassination theory also failed to gain support.<\/p>\n

The inquest found no evidence that Prince Philip or British intelligence had ordered Diana\u2019s death, while previous French and British investigations had likewise rejected claims that the crash was part of an assassination plot.<\/p>\n

Still, Al Fayed\u2019s pregnancy allegation has remained part of the public fascination surrounding Diana\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

Nearly 30 years later, that small area of scientific uncertainty is once again being used to revive a theory that investigators have repeatedly found little evidence to support.<\/p>\n

The question surrounding Diana\u2019s alleged pregnancy may never disappear completely\u2014but the evidence presented during the investigations overwhelmingly pointed away from the claim.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
