Four months after giving birth to twin girls through an emergency C-section, I stood in our bedroom wearing the dark green one-piece swimsuit I’d bought for our family trip to the water park.<\/p>\n

My husband Daniel looked at me and immediately said, \u201cNo. You’re not going.\u201d<\/p>\n

I was thirty-one, still healing from major surgery, running on broken sleep, and caring for Lily and Noa around the clock. My body looked exactly like what it was\u2014a body that had carried two babies only four months earlier.<\/p>\n

He had even started looking at how his own estate<\/strong> could be structured to protect his granddaughters if circumstances within the family ever changed.<\/p>\n

Daniel protested, but Frank refused to back down simply to preserve the peace or avoid the possibility that difficult family decisions might eventually end up in court<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Daniel finally walked away from the table.<\/p>\n

Frank’s letter remained sitting in front of me.<\/p>\n

Nearly an hour later, Daniel returned.<\/p>\n

He looked shaken.<\/p>\n

He admitted that he didn’t know how to fix the damage he’d caused.<\/p>\n
