It was meant to be nothing more than a relaxed family lunch, with sunshine pouring through the windows, laughter echoing around the table, and everyone enjoying each other’s company. Then little Amy looked up at me with bright, trusting eyes and quietly said, \u201cGrandma.\u201d<\/p>\n

It should have filled me with joy. It should have been one of those moments I treasured forever.<\/p>\n

Instead, I responded in a way that still pains me to remember.<\/p>\n
