I honestly tried everything I could think of\u2014offering treats, buying toys, and even speaking to her in the calmest, kindest voice I could. But no matter how much effort I put in, she would hiss at me, stare me down, or escape to some unreachable spot where I couldn\u2019t bother her.<\/p>\n
It felt like she had made up her mind about me from the very beginning.<\/p>\n
One day, while I was at an animal shelter with a friend, I noticed a cat that looked almost exactly like my wife\u2019s pet. The same markings, the same intense eyes\u2014except this cat was calm and friendly.<\/p>\n
