After my husband passed away in a house fire, I moved in with my son and his wife while I got back on my feet. When my son was around, his wife acted warm and welcoming\u2014but everything changed once he was deployed overseas.<\/p>\n

The very next day, she began treating me like hired help, leaving chore lists and making it clear I either followed them or found somewhere else to live. Not wanting to burden my son while he was away, I stayed quiet and tried to endure it.<\/p>\n

Then she decided to host an elaborate birthday dinner for twelve guests\u2014and expected me to cook a full six-course gourmet meal. She insisted I pay for all the ingredients too, which ended up costing over $1,400. Despite how unreasonable it was, I went along with it, spending days preparing an intricate menu and cooking from early morning until evening, completely exhausted.<\/p>\n
