I (28F) moved in with my fianc\u00e9 (30M) last year. The house is technically his, but over time I\u2019ve helped turn it into something I considered ours. I decorate, cook, clean, and contribute to the mortgage too.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve put a lot of effort into making it feel like a shared home, not just a place I stay. But nothing prepared me for what happened one afternoon when I came home early, hoping for some quiet downtime.<\/p>\n

As I walked down the hall, something felt off. The bedroom door was slightly open. I pushed it and stopped dead in my tracks.<\/p>\n

My future mother-in-law was inside our closet, going through my clothes. Not tidying, not organizing\u2014actively sorting through my things as if she belonged there. She startled when she saw me, clearly not expecting to be caught.<\/p>\n

Her excuse? She said she was \u201cchecking if I had enough hangers.\u201d I genuinely thought I misunderstood her.<\/p>\n

Shocked, I confronted my fianc\u00e9, expecting him to be just as disturbed. Instead, he calmly told me his mother has a key to the house and \u201cdrops by sometimes to help.\u201d<\/p>\n

Help? Since when does helping mean going through someone\u2019s personal belongings?<\/p>\n

When I told him it crossed a serious boundary, he dismissed it like it was normal, as if her involvement justified everything. I felt like I was the only one seeing how wrong it was.<\/p>\n

I told him the key needed to be taken back and clear boundaries set. Instead of agreeing, he acted like I was overreacting.<\/p>\n

His mother didn\u2019t apologize either. She told me I should be \u201cgrateful\u201d she cares enough to help around the house.<\/p>\n

So now I\u2019m left questioning everything\u2014because surely I\u2019m not the one who\u2019s out of line for thinking this is a major violation of privacy and trust.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
