On Thursday, April 2, John passed away after taking his final breath. Just nine hours later, his wife Alice also died.<\/p>\n
A longtime Tennessee couple, married for 70 years, died within hours of each other last week\u2014something their family says was not unexpected.<\/p>\n
John and Alice Trice spent their lives together, raising a family and contributing to their community. Their daughter, Angela Greene, told WSMV reporter Sarah Allen that they perfectly represented what it means to grow old side by side.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou never mentioned one of them without thinking of the other,\u201d Greene said.<\/p>\n
John was born in Lebanon, Tennessee, while Alice grew up nearby in Mount Juliet, only about 15 miles away. The two first met at a square dance at the Green Hills Club, Greene shared.<\/p>\n
After John\u2019s passing on April 2, Alice died just nine hours later.<\/p>\n
\u201cNeither of them would have wanted to live without the other, and in the end, they didn\u2019t have to,\u201d Greene said.<\/p>\n
The couple were well known in their community for their work with the Wilson County Fair, where they played key roles in shaping the event. John served as the fair\u2019s first president, while Alice helped establish its popular flower show.<\/p>\n
Their contributions were so valued that a road near the fairgrounds was named in John\u2019s honor.<\/p>\n
Randall Clemons, the current fair president, described them as deeply committed to their neighbors.<\/p>\n
